Hand and custom work

Custom and hand work

Making a garment, updating one you already own, or finishing a detail by hand where a machine cannot reach. Bring the idea or bring the garment.

Making and updating what you wear

Custom work covers two kinds of job. One is making: a garment sewn to the measurements of the person who will wear it, instead of the measurements of a size chart. The other is updating: taking something you already own and changing its shape, length or details so it suits you now.

An older jacket with a good fabric and a dated cut, a favourite skirt that no longer sits right, a piece handed down from a relative and worth keeping: these start from cloth that already carries value, which is why updating is often the more satisfying job.

Where a machine will not do

Some work is done by hand because the machine would crush it, miss it or leave a visible line. A delicate edge, a lining caught at the hem, a facing that has to be tacked invisibly inside a seam, a small repair on cloth too fine or too thick for a presser foot: these are needle-and-thread jobs.

Hand work is slower, and it is also quieter in the finished garment. Stitches placed by hand can follow the cloth rather than force it, so the result hangs more naturally and shows less. ALL-SEW has over 20 years of experience serving the Treasure Valley, and knowing when to put the machine down is part of it.

Bring the idea or bring the garment

You do not need a finished plan. A photograph, a garment that almost works, or a rough description of what you want is enough to begin a conversation at the fitting. From there the work is pinned, marked and checked against the person who will wear it before any final stitching.
