What goes wrong when clothing comes off the rack
Off-the-rack clothing is cut for an average body that nobody actually has. The shoulder sits a half inch too wide, the waist gapes at the back, the sleeve ends past the wrist bone. Each of those is a small miss, and together they are the difference between a garment that is worn and one that hangs in the closet.
Children grow, and a good coat or a dress for a recital has to last through more than one season. Adults change too, and a favourite jacket that no longer sits right is usually worth fixing rather than replacing.
Most of these problems are seam problems. If the fabric and the construction allow it, a seamstress can move a seam, and the garment comes back to the shape it was meant to have.

Pinned on you, not guessed from a tag
At ALL-SEW in Nampa, the fitting is the work. Jo pins the garment while you are wearing it, checks the line in the mirror, and marks the new seams with tailor's chalk before a single stitch is sewn. Bring the shoes, belt or undergarments you plan to wear with it, because they change how clothing hangs.
The same approach covers men's, women's and children's clothing: shirts and trousers, dresses and skirts, jackets and coats. Smaller frames are handled the same way, and there is a separate page for petite alterations.
Work is by appointment, Monday to Saturday from 9:00am to 9:00pm. Pickup and delivery are available across the Treasure Valley, and emergency service and 24-hour turnaround are available when an event will not wait.
What can be taken in, and what cannot
Taking a garment in is almost always possible. Letting it out depends on how much seam allowance was left inside when it was made, and some garments simply have none to give. A seamstress who is honest with you about that at the fitting saves you from paying for a fix that cannot work.
Some changes are structural: moving a shoulder seam on a lined jacket, or reshaping a heavily tailored coat, takes much longer than a hem and should be talked through before it is booked. Ask on the phone and describe the garment, and Jo will tell you what is realistic.
